Plain English

Voice AI

AI that listens and talks back: it understands speech, replies aloud and can handle a phone call.

Systems that turn speech into text, work out what’s meant and answer in a natural-sounding voice, often in real time. It powers voice assistants, call transcription and phone agents that take bookings.

Why it matters

It can catch calls you’d otherwise miss, but it speaks for your business: tell callers it’s AI, keep a way to reach a person, and check how recordings are stored.

At work

A plumbing firm lets a phone agent take after-hours booking requests, confirm the address and pass anything urgent or involving money to a person.

Think of it like a receptionist on the phone who never gets tired, but sticks to the script and passes tricky calls to you.
